Course design and race programme

The championship programme includes 13 separate races spanning junior, under-23, and elite categories for both men and women, plus team time trials and the elite road races that traditionally decide the rainbow jerseys. Course routes incorporate Montreal's urban grid, the climb of Mount Royal, and surrounding Quebec roads selected for their combination of technical descents and selective gradients.

National teams, not trade squads, compete at the Road Worlds — a distinction that reshapes tactics compared with the professional calendar. Riders who excel in one-day races and punchy finishes tend to thrive, while general classification specialists from Grand Tours must adapt to shorter, more explosive formats.

Preparations with 100 days to go

With the countdown reaching 100 days in June 2026, organisers confirmed that more than 1,500 volunteers had registered and that 800 media accreditations were expected. Premier Tech joined as a main partner in February, reflecting the event's significance for Quebec's technology and agricultural sectors.

The UCI published quota allocations by nation in advance, with top cycling countries receiving up to eight starters in elite men's and women's road races. National federations must confirm rosters through the UCI Dataride platform, and the start lists will determine which favourites arrive in Montreal as defending champions or recent Grand Tour winners.

What fans should expect on the ground

Organisers anticipate around 500,000 in-person spectators across the eight days, with the elite men's and women's road races on the final weekend drawing the largest crowds. Montreal's public transit system will carry additional service on race days, and road closures will affect downtown and Mount Royal access during timed events.

For cycling fans, the 2026 Worlds offer a rare North American opportunity to watch rainbow-jersey competition on home continent roads — a circumstance that last occurred when Richmond, Virginia, hosted in 2015.
